ABOUT THE CLASS

Do you have a favourite pair of jeans with a tear, a jumper with a missing button, or a wardrobe full of clothes that need a little love? Don’t throw them away! Bring them to Make Do & Mend, our weekly (free!) drop-in textile repair and reuse cafe.

The "Make Do and Mend" movement originally began in the 1940s when fabric was scarce. Today, we are reviving that resourceful spirit - not out of scarcity, but to combat the impact of fast fashion on our landfills. It’s time to take charge of your wardrobe!

What to expect:

• Repair & Refresh: Every week, Heather will be on hand to help you patch, stitch, and breathe new life into old fabrics.

• Alter & Upcycle: Got an outfit that fits weirdly or something you just don't wear anymore? Learn how to alter unflattering clothes to fit better, or transform old garments into something completely new - think of The Great British Sewing Bee's Transformation challenge!

• Community Vibe: This is a welcoming, slow-paced space to chat, share skills, and enjoy a cup of tea.

• Sustainability in Action: Learn how to extend the life of your textiles, clear out the clutter, and keep waste out of landfills.

🧵 What to bring: Please bring the garments you want to work on. Basic sewing supplies and advice are provided free of charge, but if your project requires specific hardware or matching components (such as a specific size/colour zip or unique buttons), you will need to purchase and bring those items with you.

On certain 'holidays' we will be making items related, for example Hallowe'en Costumes at Hallowe'en, etc. This will be publicised on our social media during the week before,
