Make Video Armour with Evelyn Roth
Event description
Octogenarian visionary, Andy Warhol contemporary, and visual art legend Evelyn Roth joins Overshare for two weaving sessions; learn how to smash video cassettes and use tape to crotchet and upcycle materials to make ropes, clothing and wearables. Roth – dubbed ‘Canada’s Recycling Queen’ – is renowned for large-scale inflatables of animals, plants, insects, and creatures. Her works wonder at the potential of community gathering as a garden of humanitarian expansion. Informed by collaborations in Haida Gwaii, on Kaurna Country, across the United States and in Kauai, Roth has collected an encyclopedic amount of slides documenting her enduring interdisciplinary practice. For over four decades, her sculptures have drawn from animal life, marine biology, oral histories, and cross-continental connections to create fantastical worlds that gawk at nature’s theatricality. These workshops are ideal for anyone interested in mixed media, installation art, weaving, fashion, and experimental film.
