Event description

Learn how to make simple, low-cost moisturising creams, made from all natural ingredients and adaptable to your skin type that work for people and don't cost the planet. Whether you're a skincare enthusiast, simply curious about natural skincare, or keen to reduce waste and packaging in your household, then this workshop is for you!

Join Sarah McFadden at Kelmarna Community Farm for this intro in making your own moisturising creams. The workshop will give you the materials and know-how to start making them yourself at home and the confidence to explore tailoring recipes to suit your skin type.

What to expect:

The first portion of this session will introduce the pitfalls of mainstream cosmetics, including harmful chemicals, packaging & plastic waste, and unethical sourcing practices. You’ll then learn the power of natural ingredients, as well as what to use for different skin types and conditions, and where to source these ingredients.

A good moisturiser is a must-have for our skin, so this workshop focuses on how to craft two different versions of moisturiser, one for more oily/combination skin, and one for more dry/mature skin types. We focus on simple recipes that don’t require a lot of different ingredients and are easy to replicate at home.

You’ll observe the creation of two cream recipes, and get your own to take home and start using.

Tickets include:

  • Theoretical and practical instruction
  • Two finished creams to take home
  • A handout with instructions and recipes
  • An aloe vera leaf for you to use at home for your next making session

What to bring:

  • 2 x small jars/pots to take your creams home (make sure they are nice and clean!)
  • a pen and notepad to take notes, if you like

Sarah McFadden is also our Kelmarna General Manager. She has been making her own cosmetics for more than 10 years, perfecting the recipes and sharing finished products with family and friends.

In her previous career she worked at Wholefoods Market in the UK - as a manager of the Health and Beauty department, which sparked a passion for more natural, environmentally friendly and non-toxic products. Over the years she’s been experimenting with lots of different DIY cosmetics, and has distilled that experience into this workshop offering to share the knowledge and encourage more people to try making their own!

At Kelmarna, we strive to make education accessible for everyone. So, where possible, we offer a 35% discount on our workshops to valid Community Services Card holders. If you book one of these tickets, please email us a copy of your valid Community Services Card, and remember to bring it along to the workshop. Please note that this option does not include Super Gold Card holders.

We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon!
