    Event description

VISIBLE MENDING with Joss from THE SOCIAL OUTFIT

In this workshop you will learn how to give your torn or worn garment new life with visible mending. This technique embraces the holes and tears in your garments and makes them a feature.

With the use of decorative stitches, colourful threads and interesting fabric scraps, you can transform your garment.

Visible mending is best used for garments that are made from woven fabrics, eg. denim clothing.

Please bring a garment that needs a hole or tear fixed and a few scraps of fabric of your choice (optional). Please do not bring stretch garments as that technique is darning and will not be covered in this workshop.

Everything else will be provided eg, Needles, thread and fabric pieces.

The Social Outfit is a fashion label with a difference.

Our social enterprise charity provides employment and training to people from refugee and new migrant communities via our ethical manufacturing studio and retail store. The Social Outfit’s primary focus is to remove barriers to training and employment for refugee and new migrant women. We also contribute to the circular economy and positively impact public discourse, advocating for better employment pathways for refugees and more ethical, sustainable fashion industry. To date, we have saved over 14 tonnes of fabric from landfill.
