EarlyBird tix on sale through 5/20 only 🎨 On this day-journey, come gather, connect, and craft your very own macrame earrings and custom-scented affirmation candles. Let yourself ground into creation, be uplifted by community, and share in the local small business love!
After last year’s popular “Clay Date” day retreat, we had to bring back a Makers Date for our local Portland loves. There’s something about making with your hands while connecting in community that results in magic. Our workshop leaders from Yo Soy Candle and WILDHAUS blend their craft with intention and ritual, so each time you light your custom candle or wear your handmade earrings, you’ll be reminded of who YOU’VE empowered yourself to be. Plus, you know we’re completing this maker’s affair with a cocktail and charcuterie!
No previous jewelry or candle-making experience required, and all costs of your materials are included in the ticket price. This event is open to the public, AKA, no Upper Left Ladies Membership required (though Members get discounted tickets)! All genders or gender nonconforming friends are welcome. Space is limited to 12 seats to keep an intimate, connective environment and to be sure everyone has the chance to receive workshop support in creating their crafts.
Our Makers Date day will flow in three parts:
- 12:00 pm - Welcome! Doors open at WILDHAUS & Yo Soy Candle’s northeast studio shop. We’ll have snacks, get acquainted, and share intentions
- 1:00 pm - We’ll split into two groups of six to do our two workshops (keep reading for the deets)
- 4:30 - Head to happy hour at one of our favorite local haunts. Your first drink is on us!
Makers Date will include two workshops:
I AM Custom Candle Workshop led by Leslie Abrams, owner of Yo Soy Candle
The Candle Creation Bar was inspired in 2020 by Leslie Abrams, founder of Yo Soy Candle. Yo Soy is an eco-conscious, affirmation, soy candle company founded in 2012. Leslie’s passion is to pair the magical, healing benefits of natural aromas with chosen I AM statements to create a FULL embodied experience of self-empowerment, healing, transformation and ritual. When you participate at The Candle Creation Bar, first, we’ll set an intention, then Leslie will guide you in finding a blend that feels like home. While cultivating your dream candle, you will journal and manifest a powerful I AM to pair with your unique candle creation! Making your own candle will feel like a meditation, and smell like a dream.
Earrings Workshop with Cynthia Valenti of WILDEHAUS
WILDEHAUS is a space where plants and design meet, bringing the wild inside your home, office, commercial or event space. It was designed and created by Cynthia Valenti, with the mission of creating interiors that improve physical and mental health. Cynthia believes that our wellness improves as we return to spending more of our lives around living plants, and we couldn’t agree more. Longtime lovers of the macrame craft, WILDEHAUS hadn’t offered macrame earrings until the COVID-19 pandemic brought us all to Zoom, creating limitations of a shoulders-up canvas for expression and individuality. Cynthia started working up designs that could be easily seen on screen, and soon had six new designs ready to go. When her followers and friends placed their orders from coast to coast, the sales paid her bills for those first few months during lockdown. And once WILDEHAUS and Yo Soy Candle opened their brick and mortar location together, she designed a workshop around teaching how to make them. Fast forward to today - these are the earrings we will make at our day retreat!

Happy Hour
After we’ve made our crafts, we’ll head to a nearby bar for sips and bites. Your first drink is on us! We’ll unwind and close out our last hour or so with some hang out time and refreshing bevs.

- Where do we park? Street parking will be available.
- What do I need to bring? Nothing! All supplies, as well as snacks and a cocktail are included in your ticket.
- Do I have to be a ULL member to come? Nope!
- Do I have to identify as a woman to come? Nope! All are welcome.
- Is my ticket refundable? Tickets are non-refundable as we use the funds to purchase our materials in advance, but you may transfer your ticket to another name.
