Description

You’ve heard what AI can do. Now it’s time to actually use it.

Making AI Useful is a small, hands-on workshop for St Bede’s parents who want to build their confidence with AI and learn how to apply it to real tasks across work, home and everyday life.

This won’t be a presentation about AI. You’ll bring your laptop, open the tools and learn by doing.

Together, we’ll work through practical examples and explore how to:

  • write better prompts and get more useful results

  • turn a vague idea or problem into something AI can actually help with

  • use AI for writing, planning, researching, organising and problem-solving

  • make AI useful for the everyday juggle of work, home and family life

  • recognise when an AI response isn’t quite right and know what to do next

  • use AI thoughtfully, including understanding privacy and what information not to share

  • build simple habits and techniques you can keep using long after the workshop.

You don’t need to be technical or an experienced AI user. The workshop is designed for everyday users who want practical skills they can immediately put into practice.

What to bring

Bring your laptop and charger. We will focus on using the FREE Claude account, setting up an account in the room.

A printed Plain Speak AI Literacy workbook is included, with practical exercises, prompts and space to capture the approaches that work for you.

Small group, practical learning

The workshop is capped at 20 participants, so there’s plenty of opportunity to ask questions, try things yourself and get help as you work through the exercises.

The aim is simple: you should leave knowing more than when you arrived, but more importantly, having actually used AI and feeling confident enough to keep experimenting with it yourself.

Wednesday 18 November
6:00–7:30pm
St Bede’s school library
$109 per person | Maximum 20 participants

This workshop is independently delivered by Plain Speak AI Literacy and is not a St Bede’s school event.
