Making Class ‘Worth the Commute’ and Engaging First Years to Attend In Person- recommendation from the First Year Experience Report
Event description
This session will provide a short overview of the First Year Experience Project and will focus on one of the recommendations that emerged from consultations with students and staff. This recommendation explores the concept of ‘Belonging with Purpose’ and focuses on teaching staff using 'action-based learning techniques to make attending classes ‘‘worth the commute.’’ Delving deeper into this recommendation, participants will hear from other teaching staff about how they have been able to achieve high in-person attendance and engagement in their units among first year students. The session will also include access to resources that participants can use towards increased engagement. Lastly, the session will provide time for participants to reflect, brainstorm, and share their experiences and best practice. PRESENTED BY Naia Robinson, Student Life (First Year Experience).
