The Making Connection co-labs take place at RMIT Melbourne 11-15 December 2023. Produced by the Mapping Future Imaginaries network, Making Connection explores the importance of creative encounters for social connection. Come and co-explore with artists, researchers and industry specialists how creative encounters build our relationships with place, and help design frameworks for making connection.

Making Connection: Mapping posthuman citizens and civics

How might the creative encounter help imagine future cities? And how might our encounters with art help us to speculate on the more-than-human citizens to come? In this co-lab you will encounter works within the NGV that spark ideas, and through experimental mapping, create cartographies of possible civic futures.

Using drawing and critical stitching practices, Linda Knight explores the possibilities of experimental cartographies as a reparative practice. Linda’s international profile as an award-winning artist and theorist includes transdisciplinary, experimental mapping projects that critically explore mainstream counter-narratives. Linda devised Inefficient Mapping for projects informed by post- theories, with the mapping approach being used internationally, including by Dis.assembly Canada and NGV Australia / International. An Associate Professor at RMIT University, Australia, Linda is the Founder and Director of Mapping Future Imaginaries, an international group of artists, creatives, scholars, and industry specialists exploring ideas about our future lives and the world.
