Making Noise: Standing with Survivors

Event description

A NIGHT CELEBRATING THE COURAGEOUS WORK SURVIVORS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, FOSTERING THE POSSIBILITY OF HOPE FOR SURVIVORS EVERYWHERE.

The recent protests and political movements in Australia have proven that gender-based violence still plagues our country. The conversations that we are having about sexual violence online are further proof that the shame attached to seeking help is stubborn and pervasive. Further, the education, resources, and services available around themes of consent and sexual safety are still so inadequate in reversing the problem. We have decided that #APostIsNotEnough – we don’t want these efforts to lose traction, or the work of survivors to be simply treated as a conversation that the public only sometimes join. In the words of Grace Tame, we want to keep “making noise” – so that’s exactly what we’ll do. On the night, we will be running a series of live performances and silent auctions to raise funds for Full Stop Australia. We will be involving a range of advocates, artists and speakers, and will be offering discrete opportunities for counselling and further support during the course of the night.

100% of your ticket cost will go to Full Stop Australia and Centre Against Sexual Assault.

At Making Noise, we acknowledge and celebrate the inherent intersecting identities of all people. We are committed to making an inclusive and accessible environment for all gender identities, sexualities, disabilities, ages, colours and religions. We particularly honour all the survivors who have not been seen or heard, due to the ongoing and systemic discriminatory nature of Australia. Our values of inclusivity and accessibility are core to who we are and are ongoing as we continue to learn and unlearn, so we welcome any feedback on how we can make our event more inclusive for you by emailing us at makingnoiseau@gmail.com or calling/texting on 0433 691 492.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land Making Noise is on, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
