Manawa Nights—With Special Guest Sjaan Fahey

Manawa Nights is a speaker series curated to foster a community of ladies who love the outdoors, or would like to gain confidence in the outdoors. This could mean you love walks on the beach, or it could mean you love adventure racing—our doors are open to all walks of life and backgrounds! Please join us to listen to these talks, or to meet other awesome wāhine toa!

We are very excited to announce our first speaker of the series, Sjaan Fahey!

The first time Sjaan and I met was for a trip I was organising on behalf of the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation, Wāhine & Wapiti 2024. Sjaan put her submission in the running to be one of 7 ladies who would navigate the wilderness of the Wapiti area of Fiordland National Park for a week. A year on I asked her if she would come and speak at the inaugural Manawa Nights event here in Tauranga. Local to the Bay of Plenty, a mother of three and a farmer alongside her hubbie (amongst many other things), Sjaan's story is one of courage and bravery as she was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer at age 33.

Now an advocate for women's health Sjaan is also a 'yes' girl—in a get your hands dirty, girls can do anything, lovely, gritty kind of way. I am so proud to welcome Sjaan to our first speaker event and would love to welcome you along to hear her story and her connection to all things outdoors.
