Mandala Art Using a Gel Plate
Description
Mandalas are geometric images, radiating from a central point, which have appeared in many ancient spiritual traditions. They often symbolise the universe and can be used as a focus point in meditation. A mandala design in your home is thought to bring calmness, focus and prosperity.
In this workshop with Helen, you will create a mandala painting with an ancient, weathered look because of the technique used. Beginning with a stencil (there are lots to choose from), acrylic paints and a gel plate, we will create a ghost print of your chosen mandala design. Then we will use reverse painting techniques on the gel plate to add colour and build layers on the gel plate for a single print pull onto heavy paper. Finally, you will mount your print onto a 20cm square cradled wood panel for display at home.
You can use your own choice of colours, and you will learn two special gel plate techniques - ghost prints and reverse painting.
This workshop is suitable for beginners to gel plate printing, but also for experienced printers looking to explore new techniques while enjoying a relaxing, mindful activity.
