It lets us know what the most delicate feelings and emotions characters are feeling. It sets the tone, atmosphere, and nature of characters and very often, the music itself, becomes a character in the story.

Imagine a scene where the main actor is running through a field. The grass is tall and they are running at a fast pace with no clear emotion on their face. In the background we hear a brooding horror soundtrack with shrill violins and low-end rumbles. How is this actor feeling?

Now imagine the same scene, the actor running through the field, but this time an inspiring action soundtrack emerges. Triumphant brass and orchestra take charge and sounding just like your favourite superhero movie. What is this character feeling now? Probably something very different than previously...
