Mandoon Bilya Community Planting Day
Description
Help Restore the Helena River: Community Planting Day at Mandoon Bilya
After another long, dry summer in Perth, our local landscapes need urgent care. The Mandoon Bilya (Helena River) is a culturally significant ephemeral waterway that brings life to heal the landscape, creating a critical wildlife corridor from York to Perth, through the hills and metro suburbs. Join us at Mandoon Bilya (Helena River) to take direct action against climate change and help restore the beautiful riparian zone of Mandoon Bilya.
The Mission: Reclaiming a Vital River Habitat
Home to Western Long Neck Turtles, Rakali, Brush Tailed Possums, and a large variety of bird species, this project is rebuilding local plant communities along the lower floodplain to provide viable habitat to the many remnant fauna species in the area. We are engaging with the local community to raise awareness about the ecological value, and benefits of restoring this important biodiverse area.
Why your help matters:
Restore Habitat: Help us rebuild the riparian vegetation that supports a vast and diverse of range of threatened fauna including, Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo, Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, and the Rakali (native water rat).
Plant Key Species: We will be planting Machaerina rubiginosa, Ficinia nodosa, Juncus kraussii and pallidus, Chorizema cordatum, Paraserianthes lophantha and Taxandria linearifolia
Climate and Ecological Resilience: Contribute to nature-based solutions that improve biodiversity and ecological health within our urban environment.
Community Connection: Enjoy a rewarding, physical day outdoors meeting fellow nature lovers and learning about our unique local ecosystem.
Every task directly supports the survival and success of native plantings and helps create healthier habitats for wildlife.
