    Event description

Letting go of material things that once belonged to us has spiritual significance. Material and clothes represent the tender connection of the body to the environment. By laying down the fabric, we are laying something of ourselves down. The workshop aims to generate a more profound discussion and understanding of the environment and how personal clothes represent us. Even things we no longer want can be reused for something beautiful—later, all items of fabric/clothes are donated to charity.

The term "Mandorla" (Italian) or "Mandala" (Sanskrit) has various meanings depending on the context. A Mandorla is an almond-shaped or oval frame used in art and design, symbolizing unity, wholeness, and balance. In Christian art, it comes from an almond-shaped aura, signifying the merging of opposites. On the other hand, a Mandala represents the universe and serves as a path to higher truth, symbolizing interconnectedness, harmony, and the unity of heaven and earth in Hinduism and Buddhism.

For this project, the mandala represents the circular top floor of the lookout and frames the area surrounding Mt Flora.

The choice of the Mandala/Mandorla identity represents the workshop group's beliefs.

    Worksop Outline

Part 1. Bring clothes or textiles to be donated. We separate colours and begin designing the mandorla/mandala.

Part 2. –We physically create the Mandorla/Mandala on the top floor of the lookout.

All members of the community are invited. For all ages.

Participants can bring their materials/fabric, but it is unnecessary.

If climbing stairs is physically restricted, we will use the grassed area before the Artist's workshop.
