Manea Park Guided Wildflower Walk

Event description

Explore the stunning diversity of native flora at Manea Park through a guided wildflower walk with the Leschenault Catchment Council, part of their Leschenault Estuary Connect Program. The walk will be led by Andrew Webb, Flora Conservation Officer from the WA Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. Discover the unique beauty of Manea Park Reserve’s wildflowers and be inspired to plant native species in your garden to protect local biodiversity.

Monday 30th September, Manea Park, 9am-11.30am, tickets $5 adult, children under 18 are free. Limited places available, please let us know if you can no longer make it - refunds will be granted up to one day before the event.

The walk features a gentle 2.3 km loop around the reserve, showcasing a vibrant array of Western Australian wildflowers. Your tour guides will point out stunning species such as donkey orchids, leaping spider orchids, curry flowers, buttercup bushes, salt and pepper bushes, native wisteria, sundews, kangaroo paws, jug orchids, and white spider orchids, among others.

Manea Park Reserve is also a vital habitat for several threatened species, including the forest red-tailed black cockatoos, Carnaby's and Baudin's white-tailed black cockatoos, and the critically endangered western ringtail possum.

Participants will also learn about the serious threat posed by Phytophthora dieback, a plant disease present in the reserve that affects over 40% of native plant species. The impact of dieback on Western Australia’s biodiversity is severe and irreversible. While the disease spreads naturally and through animals, human activities, in disturbing and moving infested soils, have accelerated its spread faster than any other means.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing including; long sleeved shirt and long pants, enclosed walking shoes and a hat. Be aware there will be a photographer present at this event, please let a staff member know if you do not wish to be photographed.

This event is supported by generous funding from Lotterywest, helping to build a better WA together and Water Corporation.
