Auckland Shibari Studio (ASS) Beginners Intensive is a 4 week beginners course that will start at the absolute basics. you’ll learn how to use traditional Japanese Jute rope to tie yourselves and your partner(s). You will learn the basic ties used in Shibari practice, how to use Shibari to foster deeper sensual connection and trust with yourself or a partner, and how to communicate verbally and non-verbally to also create a meditative space for your model (or rope bunny as we call them!).You will learn how to use the rope, not only to tie, but create different sensations, volumes, sounds and experiences in a social and relaxed environment! You will walk away with more confidence and the ability to come to Intermediate classes.
Classes start: 5:30pm – 7:30pm Tuesday 4th , 11th, 18th, 25th
Week 1 Tuesday 4th
This class starts with the background of Shibari, the history and how it has changed over the decades. We also talk about Kaspian's Shibari methodology and then how we will be focusing on Shibari as a connective practice.This first class will feature:
- Sensory rope experiences
- Single & Double column ties
- Ladder tie, how to create sensation while tying.
Week 2 Tuesday 11th
Here we will start with a talk about verbal and non-verbal communications in Shibari, We will then do some exercises on assertiveness training and using our voices as a tool to comfortably navigate a Shibari session.This second class you will also learn:
- Spiral futomomo
- Bunny ears harness
- How to make your model feel held while in rope
Week 3 Tuesday 18th
This week we talk about how to set up the "Ritual" of a shibari scene and how to enter a headspace of intuition so that we aren't just applying rope to peoples body, but intertwining with their desires and needs and entering an intuitive playful explorative shibari session yourself! In tandem, we will also talk about Consent during a shibari session by explaining traffic lights and how to use them.

Week 4 Tuesday 25th - Jam week
This week we talk about scene and consent negotiation, How to communicate what you are keen on, open too trying and don't want to do; Boundaries, limits and triggers. We also talk about how to build your shibari "Risk profile" so that you can better communicate with tying partners on how you can best navigate a shibari session. So bring a notepad!
- What to ask your bunny or rigger before tying
- Negotiating consent
- A floor play sequence demonstration by Kaspian, using ties we have learned in previous weeks.
- Plenty of time to practice what you have learned, watch others tie and socialise!
This week is a combined week open both to Beginners, Intermediates and Open level students.
IMPORTANT INFO
- Tickets cover 1x tying pair (two people, a partner is required, self tying is not an option).
- Ticket is for whole 4 week program, make sure you can make it every week!
- No experience required!
- Dress comfortably, Think yoga attire. No tight jeans, kink wear or business wear that you can’t maneuver sitting on the floor in.
- All equipment and class rope provided, you can optionally buy your own at the end of each class!
- Still appropriate for Intermediate and returning students, packed with heaps on new content!

fill out a Safety, Liability, T&C’s and House Rules Waiver. In this
instance, real names and identifying information may be required for
official documentation and legal purposes. The name provided will be
kept completely confidential upon the individual’s request and securely
stored with access restricted to senior Auckland Shibari Studios team
members (Currently Only Kaspian). This information will only be used
when necessary for legal reasons.
