March for a safe Campus

Event description

Together with Israel and StandWithUs are deeply concerned about the ongoing situation at the University of Sydney and other universities. The impact on the mental health and well-being of students and staff is alarming. We are uniting to urge the University of Sydney to take decisive action to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for everyone. It is unacceptable that Jewish students, faculty, and staff feel compelled to leave campus due to the actions of anti-Israel extremists and Hamas supporters. We call for immediate measures to address this issue and protect all members of the university community

We invite you to join us to promote change at the "March for a safe Campus” event. This march will demonstrate there is no place for the promotion of bigotry, discrimination, or violence against any individual or group based on ethnicity, religion, national origin, or any other factor. And the collective commitment to the well-being of Jewish students, faculty, and staff at USYD.

The emergence of an encampment at USYD, has underscored a disturbing trend of antisemitic and anti-Israel activities. Such actions compromise the principles of freedom of expression and foster an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, affecting our community's safety and access to education. Last Friday a school excursion took place at USYD ground with children as young as five years age calling for intifada and for the destruction of the State of Israel - this is unacceptable and we cannot allow universities to condone such actions on their campuses.

Enough is enough!

It is critical that we address these issues head-on. We stand in solidarity with our Jewish, Israeli, and Zionist students, faculty, and staff, advocating for a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Please join us as we march together, highlighting the resilience of our community and promoting tolerance and education against all forms of discrimination and violence.

Dress code: Wear Israeli colours (blue and white) or Australian colours (yellow and green).

We're eagerly anticipating your presence tomorrow morning at 10 AM, outside the Michael Spence Administration Building on Eastern Avenue, USYD, near the entrance of City Road. Your participation is crucial as we come together to address the pressing issues facing our university community.
We want to assure you that your safety is our top priority. We've been working closely with the police, campus security, and the USYD administration, who will be on-site to ensure a secure environment for all attendees.
As we gather, please keep in mind the following key points for the rally:
1. **Respectful and Peaceful Gathering:** This rally is intended to be a platform for support and a call to action for a safe environment. Getting aggressive or instigating conflict will not help. No hate speech or offensive behaviour will be tolerated. Let's stand together peacefully in support of students, faculty, and staff.
2. **Signage:** If you wish to bring a sign, please limit its message to examples we've provided. Avoid signs that draw attention to the conflict; instead, focus on safety and intolerance on campus. Our rally's purpose is to advocate for the safety of our community.
3. **Respectful Language and Behaviour:** It's crucial to use respectful and considerate language and behaviour throughout the event. Let's maintain the moral high ground. Anyone using offensive or divisive language or behaviour will be removed.
4. **Police Support:** The NSW Police Force recognises and supports the rights of individuals and groups to exercise their rights of free speech and peaceful assembly. They will be present to ensure the event's security.
We deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to these guidelines. By maintaining a respectful and focused atmosphere, we can maximise the impact of our rally and send a clear message of support to those affected by the situation on the USYD campus.
Thank you for your dedication to this cause. We're looking forward to standing together in unity and hope for a brighter future.
Sincerely,
The Team at Together With Israel & StandWithUs
