Marcus Rezak's Shred is Dead

Marcus Rezak lives to jam. It’s very possible he came out of the womb with a guitar already strapped on. Originally from Chicago, now based in LA, he has made a name for himself playing in super groups all over the country. He has previously collaborated and recorded with members of the Trey Anastasio Band, Frank Zappa’s band, Blues Traveler and LP Giobbi. He’s a natural-born bandleader who summons masterful musicians for a wide array of adventurous projects. We’ve seen him pull off high-stakes tributes to Phish and Frank Zappa here at the Crazy Horse. This time around, he’ll finally be presenting his “flagship” tribute – Shred is Dead.

You already can guess what we’re going to say next….this is no ordinary cover band! Marcus and company will be shot out of a cannon as they launch into the Grateful Dead orbit. Magnifying his visionary guitar playing will be three musicians who are extremely formidable in their own rite. His ride-or-die who has been here with him every time is none other than Anna Elva. Known as the “dancing drummer” due to her captivating, octopus-style groove behind the kit, Anna makes it immediately clear why she’s one of the most in-demand GD drummers in the Bay Area. Her jazzy touch is perfectly suited to draw out the nectar in the way Billy Kreutzmann did back in the early 70s. She’s as fun to watch as she is to hear.

The other two players in this quartet make their triumphant returns to the Crazy Horse for the first time in ages. Eric Levy is a veteran keyboardist who has been making an impact on the scene for over 25 years. Initially known for his work with the progressive, globally-inspired jamband, Garaj Mahal, Eric has been touring with the 80’s icons Night Ranger since 2011. He is also a Grateful Dead specialist who will give these songs a unique gusto.

Rounding out the group on bass is David Barsky. Formerly of The Higgs, he has become a prolific songwriter with his solo project in recent years. When he links up with Marcus, there is a certain comfort factor at play which is very evident in the flowing musical conversations. Barsky dials up the funk while co-piloting the space ship and doing his part to keep the dancefloor ablaze.
