Professor Mariana Mazzucato, Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London, will present a Public Lecture at the University of Technology Sydney on March 11.
Attendees will have the chance to hear directly from the globally renowned economist and author at her first address in Australia.
Professor Mazzucato, who has gained global prominence through books like The Entrepreneurial State, Mission Economy and – most recently – The Big Con, will provide an address on industrial development and innovation in a less secure, more geopolitically fraught, post-Covid global environment.
Like much of the rest of the world, Australia is rethinking its approach to industrial policy in the wake of Covid-induced supply chain shocks, energy transition issues and the growing geostrategic competition.
Professor Mazzucato’s Australian speaking tour arrives at a historically significant moment for the nation.
In fact, Australia’s industrial policy thinking has shifted in a way not seen in 40 years. Issues of sovereign capability, sovereign supply chains, friend-shoring, strategic alliances across critical technologies – these are all mainstream discussions today.
Professor Mazzucato will be available for a book signing following the lecture.
