Over the years Joan Carpenter has offered a variety of workshops for body workers to enhance their skills and for people wanting to learn massage to help their family and friends. Listening Hands Therapy is a style of treatment which brings very individual attention to a person’s body encouraging relief and re-alignment in a pain-free effective and profoundly balancing way. This is by Joan blending Remedial Massage, Myofascial Release and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy in the session.

It is the guidance of the body’s own miraculous healing ability which leads this unfolding of the healing process. This brings benefit to your family member/friend) in a gentle yet very effective way. Through this process, all of the systems of the body and mind are relaxed, softened, quieted, and nurtured in a wholistic peacefully and beneficial way. Often people comment that they rarely have felt such a sense of peace.

In the workshops, you will learn to sense, trust and follow what you feel as you do the bodywork. The difference is that this process is more of an ‘undoing’ by the body and its intelligence, with you as the helper and not you as the fixer yet you will learn massage techniques to enable you to do a full body massage at the end of the course. Practice will build your confidence.

Also we will explore through guided group and 1:1 exercises: breath, presence, mindfulness, centering and movement. This is offered as a way to facilitate your own mindful presence to yourself and the other and in doing so deepening your awareness of self so as to be more present and responsive to the other whom you massage. A dual awareness occurs as you observe, notice, and facilitate healing. Our intuitive self flourishes as we practice this awareness; a ‘knowing’ is acknowledged. In doing so you will expand your own mindful presence to yourself and the other. This will incorporate massage so those without massage experience will benefit with new skills to take home and share.

There will be time working in pairs using massage tables so you can practice this new depth of perception and awareness. All participants will give and receive treatments.
