Event description

R|Masterclass: Rewilding the Recording Studio with Cameron Deyell

Join acclaimed composer, producer and guitarist, Cameron Deyell for a hands-on, collaborative Masterclass celebrating the possibilities of sound, technology and the natural world. Presented by The Refinery, this full day experience will step outside the studio and into the wild; recording live audio in natural environments to co-create an original track, utilising UniSCs world class recording studio and facilities.

Cameron is well known for his musical collaborations with household names, Missy Higgins, Lior and SIA and his membership of avant-punk band, Liars. In recent years, his love of sailing and the open ocean has seen him incorporate and experiment with wild recordings in his work. Having spent many years living in the big cities of New York and Los Angeles and working with leading record companies (RCA, BMG, Sony, Mushroom), this Masterclass takes you inside the commercial creative process from idea to render. Participants will learn how to write quickly, improvise, collaborate, use cutting edge technology and work in response to the natural environment.

Whether you're a musician, sound designer, film composer or experimental artist, this is a rare chance to spend a day exploring the edges of music, technology and collaboration with an industry leading expert.

Spaces are strictly limited.

“Liars sounded like aliens who’d heard some rock, classical, and whale songs shot into space on a gold NASA record and discovered they had a weird knack for Earth music...”
