Masterclass: Wood Engraving Masterclass with David Frazer
Event description
Enjoy a day of wood engraving with renowned artist David Frazer in this immersive masterclass. David will share the rich history of this timeless art form and demonstrate expert techniques for creating stunning relief prints. Historically used as a form of illustration for books and newspapers; the small and intimate prints produced feature more highly detailed work than those made with lino-cut or woodcut, making them perfectly suited to accompanying narrative and poetry.
Begin with engraving a synthetic block to build your confidence. Practice with the tools while experimenting with a variety of marks and patterns, then run some test prints. Next, move on to a more considered piece using end-grain lemonwood or boxwood sourced from the UK. Learn how to seamlessly transfer your drawing to the block, and carve with precision under David's guidance. After engraving, you will print a small edition of works and learn how to curate and sign them.
