Event description

An interactive one day workshop for those who want to get great outcomes from even the hardest of conversations.

Who's it for?

This workshop is designed for people who want to:

  • get good outcomes from difficult conversations
  • get people onside vs getting their backs up
  • stop avoiding the difficult conversations
  • reduce the anxiety associated with a tricky conversation
  • reduce the time spent in "fixing up" difficult conversations gone wrong
  • learn how to approach different types of people in a way that they respond well to
  • increase their confidence in their own skills and ability to get a good outcome

This one day workshop is aimed at smart people who are frustrated at their ability to get great outcomes from difficult conversations, due to things such as avoiding them, letting their emotions get the better of them, losing focus or triggering other people's defensive mechanisms.

They are ready and willing to learn new skills and mindsets to make the difficult conversations easy, and fruitful. They see that the ability to get great outcomes in the most difficult of conversations is good for reaching their goals, good for business and good for their career.

Ideal for people leaders, team managers, professionals and anyone who needs to collaborate at work.

What is it?

This interactive workshop explores the intersection of neuroscience, mindfulness, leadership theory and positive psychology.

It equips you with the MINDSET and SKILLS to enable authentic, real conversations that get better results - both at work and at home. The learning on the day can be applied to any difficult conversation with anyone in any context.

This workshop will help you identify that the mindset we normally apply to these conversations is not helpful, and help you explore new mindsets that work for you vs against you. It will increase your self awareness into your thoughts and feelings that are getting in the way of success in tricky conversations and equip you with tools and techniques that you can apply. And it will help you with how to get things back on track if they go awry.

Why is it important?

We can spend a lot of time either ruminating or avoiding; or alternatively trying to fix up broken relationships due to difficult conversations gone wrong.  This is stressful, mentally taxing and very unproductive. It impacts on our mental wellbeing, the way we turn up at home and work, and ultimately our happiness.

When we lack the skills, mindset, courage, confidence and self awareness to have the tricky conversation well, we take a back seat in our own life and career. We hold ourselves back.

On the other hand, when we develop the ability to master a difficult conversation, the world suddenly opens up to us. We become better people leaders, more effective in our jobs, and free up that valuable space in our heads from worrying, overthinking or making things right to moving forward.

If you have ever had the experience of having a great outcome from a tricky conversation, you know how effective they can be when done well. Give yourself the gift of getting great outcomes every time.

Workshop Outcomes

Your Facilitator - Mel Rowsell

Mel Rowsell is a seasoned facilitator, coach and consultant working to bring the human connection back to the workplace.

“I attended Mel’s workshop ‘How to master difficult conversations’. It was hugely insightful and made me realise that actually its not always the conversation matter that’s daunting, its how you approach it. With the right tools you can really master it and get the result you want. Mel’s workshop really helped me reframe the particular conversation I was wanting to have, so that the other party was able to see things from my point of view without me being overpowering about it. Its easy to see these conversations as just too hard but you have a choice and a chance to learn with every conversation and this workshop really helps understand the basics of where to start with this. Highly recommend, thanks so much for a hugely insightful day.”

"Mel is an amazing presenter, very relatable and engaging".

"I now have a very useful set of tools to help me through some tough conversations I need to have. Thank you!

"I did actually have a difficult conversation the day after your course - it definitely gave me the confidence to go in there and do my thing, thank you. The outcome was great too - so wins all around".

"I really liked Mel's honest approach, it's not easy to blend alternative ideas into a business world - I thought she did this effectively and with credibility. Would like to hear more from her".

"Mel is a really engaging speaker and I liked that she tackled real challenges in a different way".
