Mates4Life Safety Aider - Wairoa 8 October
Description
Safety Aider — One Day Workshop
Have you ever sensed something wasn't quite right with a friend, family member, or a workmate, but struggled to know what to say?Worried you'd get it wrong, say the wrong thing, or make it worse? So you went with the classic "You ok?" and got the equally classic "I'm fine" in return.
We've all been there, and all wished we knew how to handle it better.
The Mates4Life Safety Aider workshop gives you the skills and confidence to recognise when someone's struggling, start the right conversation, and actually help. Because when you're in a hard space yourself, you want your mates to know what to do too.
In one day, you'll learn how to:
Spot the signs that someone might be facing mental challenges, or thinking about suicide
Start a conversation and respond with confidence
Help keep them safe through skilled, caring intervention
Help them create a safety plan
Connect them to the further support, whether that's workplace resources or wider community services
When: 9.00am – 3.30pm (with morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea breaks)
Cost: Free*
Facilitators: You'll be in great hands! This workshop is facilitated by Peter and Misty, two experienced facilitators who genuinely care about this mahi.
This workshop tackles some big topics, so our facilitators create a warm, supportive space where you can ask questions, take your time, and look after yourself along the way. If you need further support at any time contact 1737.
*We run these workshops at no cost because we believe there should be no barriers to learning these skills. If you're in a position to contribute a koha to help keep Mates4Life going, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every bit helps us reach more people.
