International Grammar School is excited to present Matilda the Musical!

Matilda the Musical is a stage musical based on the 1988 children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. It was adapted by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Shows will take place on 27, 28, 29, 30 April and 1 May from 6.30pm in the IGS School Hall.

Due to COVID restrictions, we will need to maintain appropriate distancing. As a result, tickets can only be purchased in family groups. All audience members 12 years and over will be required to wear a face mask.

There will be no food available for purchase on school grounds. All food needs to be purchased and consumed before entering the school grounds. We encourage you to support local cafes and restaurants.

Running time Matilda running time is approximately 2 hours and 35 mins, including a 20 minute interval. 

Age recommendation Matilda The Musical is recommended for a general audience. As an advisory to adults who might bring young people, the show is suitable for ages six and up. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket. All children must be old enough to occupy their own seats.

To ensure that we keep everyone as safe as possible we have introduced the guidelines below. This page provides information on what to expect when you see Matilda the Musical.

IGS thanks you for your patience and flexibility as we work together as a community to maximise the effectiveness of our COVID-safe practices.

Do not attend the event if:

  • You have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days or are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.
  • You are unwell or have any symptoms of COVID-19 (including cough or sore throat) at the time of attending or have been unwell within the previous 72 hours and cannot provide a negative COVID-19 test result.
  • You have been to a location on a date and time that NSW Health has issued a self-isolation and get tested immediately alert for: www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates.
  • You are from an area where there is local community transmission as directed by NSW Health. Please see here an updated list of hotspot areas.

    If you or someone in your group meets the above criteria, please do not attend the performance. You should stay home and follow government guidelines to isolate and get tested.

  • Please be aware that only the ticket purchaser will receive emails regarding the event. If you are the main ticket holder please ensure you forward the communications to everyone in your party so that they have their ticket and are all aware of what to expect upon arrival.
  • Covid safety seating configurations: each party will be separated by one seat in the hall. Please ensure you sit in your assigned seat.
  • Face masks are mandatory. We ask that all audience members over 12 wear a mask during the performance. Please bring a face mask with you. For patrons who do not have one, one will be provided at the entry to the hall.
  • Download your eTicket and have it ready on your mobile phone for scanning as you enter IGS.
  • Keep your distance when queuing and moving: To assist with social distancing, we strongly encourage you to stay in your allocated seat unless you are using the restrooms. When entering school grounds, where it is practical, please ensure that you keep your distance from other patrons and wear your mask.
  • Once inside the gate, please head straight to your designated seats. Waiting or congregating at the entrance to the Hall is not permitted.
  •  Please be advised that eating will not be permitted on International Grammar School’s campus. Dinner should be purchased and consumed before entering the campus.
  • Practise good hand hygiene by using the hand sanitising stations at the entrance to the Hall and by cleaning your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using a restroom.
  • Please stay in your seat during the 20-minute intermission if possible. No food is available.
  • Hall entry will be staggered to alleviate congestion.
    If your seats are in rows P to K, please be ready to be seated at 6pm
    If your seats are in rows J to F, please be ready to be seated at 6.10pm
    If your seats are in rows A to E, please be ready to be seated at 6.20pm.
  • Do not bring large bags into the Hall as no storage is available.
  • At the end of the show: At the end of the performance, we will be exiting the hall row by row. Once you have exited the hall, we ask that you promptly move away from the exits to ensure others can exit without congestion.
