Matrifocal Goddess Communities
Event description
Matrifocal Goddess Communities
90,000 years of Herstory exist behind you...
Cultures, lives and stories centred on protecting the needs of women and children – matrifocal societies.
Societies based on respect for women, the protection of children, worship of the divine as Mother, Lover, Earth, Goddess. We all shared a deep connection to all parts of the natural world, collaboration and consensus between folk.
Resulting in communities of peace for thousands of years.
It's time to honour our roots, remember our for-mothers and our Kin of Goddess cultures of past present and potential future. Cultures of peace, known as Matrifocal Societies.
Warriors of the patriarchy sought to eradicate this way and religion with violence and assimilation. They never totally succeeded. All around the globe, there are still groups of people who live the matrifocal way, who have kept the flame alive such that now we can learn the guidelines of their success.
In this workshop visit the ancient past and the Goddesses created then. Learn about the key aspects of matrifocal societies and those who are guided by them still. What can we glean from this that might give us hope and guide us into a better future?
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is intended for spiritual curious; witches, pagans, cunning-folk, priestesses, ecologists and anyone holding circles/ rituals/ creating sacred spaces or working with mysteries on the colonised, unceded lands of so-called Australia.Â
Are Covid-19 Vaccines required for entry?
Yes. As of 18 November 2021, Victoria entered Phase D of the Covid Safe Settings Roadmap, currently the Victorian government has mandated that all community venue attendees are double-vaccinated and show their Covid-19 vaccine certificate upon entry.
Your facilitator
Jennifer Cameron has been part of the women’s rights movement and Goddess spirituality all her life. As a trained historian, she has been looking at the hidden story of women’s roles before patriarchy emerged and what remains today of their matrifocal culture. There are still cultures adhering to the matrifocal way of honouring women as life-giving representatives of Goddess. They have found that what creates a peaceful, productive world for women and children does so for everyone. Jenny is the author of a new book Ancient Ways For Current Days available here, which asks, ‘is this a model we could make use of today?’

Background
the Gaia Temple – Explore Goddess workshops
At the Gaia Temple, our mission is to help create a world in which people respect and honour the Goddess in her many forms and explore the intersection of spirituality, ecology and community activation. Our 'Explore Goddess' workshops are an opportunity for people to come together over lunch and an afternoon of group discussion facilitated by an authoritative special guest.
We explore new ideas about how the Goddess is present in our lives, the relevance of earth based spiritual perspective in solving modern issues and celebrate the Divine Feminine within, from a uniquely Australian perspective.
Each workshop covers an essential aspect of how we connect with and honour the Goddess, from Indigenous perspectives to honouring our Ancestors and motherline, celebrating the turn of the seasons and connecting with the spiritual energy of nature.
Come dive into women’s wisdom, story-telling and embodied learning! We will transport you to her different altars and immerse you in her divine energy here at the Temple.
