Matthew Garvie Piano Recital
Riverina Conservatorium of Music
Wagga Wagga NSW, Australia
Event description
This piano program explores the theme of a storm in all its forms. Chopin’s Raindrop Prelude evokes the steady drip of rain, while the contrasting moods of Ballade No. 2 and Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes mirror the clash of hot and cold air in a lightning storm. Debussy’s Pagodas offers calm at the storm’s center, inspired by the tranquil sounds of the Javanese Gamelan. The program’s centerpiece, Justin Williams’ A Storm (2024), captures both the fierce winds of a natural tempest and the emotional turbulence within. Written for the ANAM Set Festival, it has been performed live only a handful of times.
