About the Band

The Matthew Ives Big Band is a powerhouse 16–17 piece ensemble performing a dynamic repertoire of swing classics and popular show tunes. Originating in Hobart, the band was born from Matthew Ives’ PhD project exploring Buddy Rich’s big band arrangements.

The MIBB has dazzled audiences across Tasmania at events like the Clarence Jazz Festival, Jazz in the Park, and the Bellerive Boardwalk. Their playlist includes classics like Love for Sale, Wave, Big Swing Face, and Cheek to Cheek. Expect a night of sophisticated horn arrangements and big band vocal standards that will leave you captivated!
