Matthew Teakle presents an evening of some of his favourite music performed alongside some of his favourite musicians, drawing on influences of Jonathan Kreisberg, Gilad Hekselman, and John Coltrane, this promises to be an evening of exciting modern jazz, heavy grooves, and classic tunes.
Matthew Teakle
Matthew is an enthusiastic young guitarist based in Brisbane; he realised his love of guitar music at the age of nine when his father showed him the music of Led Zeppelin and Guns n’ Roses. Since then, he has become highly regarded for his versatility, performing regularly in a variety of ensembles and genres ranging from jazz, rock, and funk, to experimental classical music.
Matthew recently graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium with first class honours and the University Medal, in his time there he was mentored by renowned performers Jose McLaughlin, Karin Schaupp, and Steve Newcomb. Presently, he maintains an active career as a sideman on the Brisbane music scene and performs as the principal guitarist in the Queensland Jazz Orchestra. Matthew’s guitar playing has been broadcast nationally by the ABC and 4ZZZ, he has had the honour of performing as a featured soloist with the Queensland Wind Orchestra and enjoys playing the cello for leisure in the Queensland Youth Symphony.
Beth Foad
Beth has been a thriving performer from a very early age, with her passion for the stage beginning through dance and blossoming through music. Graduating from the Queensland Griffith Conservatorium of Music in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Jazz Voice), Beth has spent the last 6 years honing her skills under the mentorship of Australia’s finest vocalists and has performed in venues all over Brisbane and Ipswich, as well as Far North Queensland with the Queensland Youth Orchestra Big Band. Beth has a passion for teaching and has just completed her Master of Music Studies Specialising in Vocal Pedagogy.
Bede Prince
Bede Prince is a Brisbane/ Meanjin based bassist and graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium on Music, studying under many of Australia’s premier jazz musicians such as, Peter Walters, Steve Newcomb and James Sandon. He is an in demand performer in the Brisbane and Queensland music scene performing at many venues including, the Brisbane and Towoomba Jazz Clubs, JMI live and DooBop Jazz Bar.
Lachlan Hawkins
Lachlan Hawkins is an accomplished drummer, handpan artist and educator based in Brisbane. Since graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2015, where he was awarded First Class Honours and the University Medal, Lachlan has continued a diverse and fulfilling career performing with a stellar collection of jazz, contemporary and folk artists including The Ten Tenors, James Morrison, Monique Clare, Karl S Williams, Jordan Brodie, and The View From Madeleine's Couch.
In 2016, Lachlan found a new path as a handpan-singer/songwriter playing the uniquely mesmerising steel pan instrument called the handpan, and has since shared his original music with audiences around Australia including performances at Majors Creek Folk Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Brisbane City Hall. Lachlan has shared his music in major Brisbane hospitals and cancer wards through the monumental healing work of The Stairwell Project, and in 2019 celebrated his first studio album 'No Enemy Within' with two Highly Commended Awards at the Queensland Music Awards.
