The Community Mattress Amnesty provides an opportunity for households to access responsible collection and recovery of unwanted mattresses in an environmentally responsible manner. To ensure the smooth operation of the event, the following Terms & Conditions apply:

1. Eligibility:

Participation is limited to residents of Clarence.
Participation is limited to one registration per residential address.

2. Mattress Limits:

A maximum of 2 mattresses per household will be accepted.
There is no provision for exceeding this limit.

3. Accepted Mattress Types:

Any size spring mattress will be accepted.
Alternative types of mattresses will not be accepted, including futons, foldable foam mattresses, air mattresses, water beds, hammocks and yoga mats.
Mattress bases are not accepted.

4. Mattress Condition Requirements:

Mattress(es) must be clean and free from dirt, debris and other contaminants.
Mattress(es) must be dry before collection.

5. Registration Requirement:

Households must pre-register for mattress collection.
Households must register for the correct collection week, depending on their suburb.
Registration details will be checked online and confirmed by Council's Waste and Sustainability team, subject to the registered address being applicable to the nominated collection week and availability.
Where a resident registers for an incorrect collection week, Council will endeavour to accommodate the registration in the correct week. However, if no availability remains, the registration may be cancelled.

6. Scheduled Collection:

Residents must register for a specific collection week.
Each collection week has limited capacity.
Registration means that mattresses will be collected within the allocated collection week during business hours, Monday to Friday. Council cannot confirm or guarantee a specific collection day or time.
This arrangement is in place to support timely and efficient collections and equitable access across the City.
Mattress(es) must be placed out and ready for collection by 6:00 am on the Monday of the registered collection week.
Mattress(es) must be presented within the property boundary, not on the kerb or nature strip, and within 5 metres of the property entry.
Safe access must be provided by the registration holder, including clear and unobstructed access paths that are free from hazards and pets, to enable safe and efficient collection by the engaged contractor.
Mattress(es) will not be collected where the engaged contractor assesses the collection or access to be unsafe.
Council may be unable to arrange a return collection, and the registration may be forfeited, where mattress(es) are not presented for collection when the contractor attends the property.

7. Property Access, Permission & Indemnity:

By registering for the Community Mattress Amnesty, the registration holder gives Council and its engaged contractor permission to enter the registered property to the extent reasonably necessary to access and collect the presented mattress(es).
Access to the registered property will be limited to areas reasonably required to undertake the mattress collection.
The registration holder must ensure that the collection area and access route on the registered property are safe, clear and unobstructed, including being free from hazards, vehicles, pets and other obstacles.
The registration holder is to indemnify, and keep indemnified, and to hold harmless the Council, its employees, agents, volunteers and contractors, and each of them from and against any liability, loss, damage, expense or claim which Council or their contractor incurs, during or after the Community Mattress Amnesty arising out of, or in connection with:
o loss, damage or injury to any property or person occurring within the registered property which is caused or contributed to by the failure of the registration holder (including through its agents, volunteers and employees) to comply with its obligations under the Community Mattress Amnesty;
The registration holder waives all present and future rights to claim against Council for:
o personal injury to, or death of, the registration holder;
o either or both loss of, or damage to, the registration holder’s property; and
o financial loss to the registration holder;
arising from, or attributable to, a wrongful (including negligent) act or omission of the registration holder or the registration holders employees, agents, volunteers or sub-contractors.

8. Waste restrictions:

No other waste or materials will be accepted as part of the program.
Only mattresses meeting these Terms & Conditions will be accepted.

9. Strict Adherence to Limits:

No mattresses exceeding the household limit will be accepted.
There is no option to pay for additional mattresses.

10. Rejection of Mattresses:

Mattress(es) not meeting the stated requirements will be rejected.
Responsibility for any rejected mattress(es) remains with the owner.
A notice of non-compliance may be placed in the property's letterbox where mattress(es) are rejected.

11. Final Decision Authority:

Council staff and engaged contractors reserve the right to determine whether mattress(es) meet the acceptance and collection criteria.
Council staff reserve the right to accept or decline registrations.
Decisions regarding eligibility, registration, collection and acceptance of mattress(es) are final.

12. Collection & Presentation:

Collection is subject to availability for the nominated week and eligibility based on the registered residential address.
The collection date and time will be determined by Council and its engaged contractor.
Mattress(es) must be presented at the front of the registered property, within the property boundary and in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.
Households seeking collection must register with Council in advance, satisfy the eligibility requirements and receive confirmation from Council before presenting mattress(es) for collection.
The applicable collection week will be communicated to the resident upon confirmation of registration.
