Event description

Maximising challenge and active learning in the classroom

Based on the latest COVID-19 public health advice, the Maximising challenge and active learning in the classroom workshop on Friday 27 November 2020 has been cancelled. Ticket holders can expect a full refund within the next week.

This full-day, face-to-face workshop is a highly interactive and engaging session where participants will develop their knowledge and skills in using technology for mastery learning.

It will focus on the benefits of encouraging active rather than passive learning and will showcase a range of approaches that can enable this. Participants will gain first-hand experience in an immersive learning games platform and an engaging discussion activity that can transform student learning in the classroom.

What will I learn?

In this hands-on workshop, you will be challenged and immersed in an active learning environment. This gamified session will provide the opportunity for you to experience a student-centred and active learning classroom setting. Think escape rooms - linked to curriculum - that can be applied in the classroom.

EXPERIENCE a Socratic Seminar and how to use this high-level discussion format as a powerful tool for active learning at any year level.

LEARN about the technology, planning and tools needed to comprehensively develop and implement active learning.

VIEW a range of digital resources and work through corresponding fun activities that support active learning, while being supported by an expert.

CHALLENGE yourself while developing new skills in a range of digital tools that are relevant for today's classroom.

This is a new standalone workshop and is open to all educators, but it also provides the perfect progression for teachers who participated in the popular Using video to enable active learning workshop, facilitated by Jeremy LeCornu in February, September and early November 2020.

The workshop will cover:

  • technology tools for mastery learning
  • how to use Breakout EDU to transform student learning
  • staging a Socratic Seminar

Workshop participants will have opportunities to network with their colleagues throughout the day and share their learning with each other. Ample time will be provided for participants to explore different aspects of this professional learning program.
