Event description

Welcome to Australia's largest regular poetry slam!

Our feature artist this month (for real this time, insha'Allah. And not like, Arab parent "insha'Allah we'll see if you can hang out with your friends insha'Allah" - for real insha'Allah!) is Omar Sakr!

He's just launched his 3rd poetry collection, 'Non-Essential Work' and he's ready to share it with everyone at the Bankstown Poetry Slam this month. His book will be on sale, and he'll be doing book signings, reading his poetry, and just in general being amazing.

His amazing bio >>

Omar Sakr is the son of Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants. He is the author of three poetry collections, including The Lost Arabs (UQP), which won the 2020 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Poetry, and a novel, Son of Sin (Affirm Press), published in 2022.
