May Workshop 2023: Mozart's Requiem

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

One of the cornerstone events of the Wellington choral scene is the annual May Workshop, hosted by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Choral Federation. With the exception of 2020, the event has run every year since 1988 and typically attracts over 150 singers from across the Wellington region and beyond. Traditionally held over the first weekend of May, the event starts with rehearsals on the Friday evening, continues the next day with morning and afternoon rehearsals, and culminates in a public concert on Saturday evening.

This year's May Workshop will be held on 5-6 May 2023 in the Alan Gibbs Centre at Wellington College and will feature Mozart's Requiem, accompanied by a dramatic orchestral reduction for two pianos and timpani. The workshop choir will be prepared once again by Brent Stewart, musical director of The Orpheus Choir. This is Brent's third time leading the workshop after smashing successes in 2021 and 2022. Past performances of the Mozart Requiem by the May Workshop choir were in 1999 with Rita Paczian, 2006 with Michael Fulcher, and 2014 with David Squire.

This year there is the option to pre-purchase a catered lunch and/or dinner on the Saturday, provided by Blue Carrot Catering. Dinner details are TBC, the lunch menu can be viewed at the following link: https://bluecarrot.co.nz/catering-menus/lunch-bags/.
