MCF Seminar Series: Integrating the planetary crisis into defence strategy
Event description
About the event
Although the planetary crisis is often described as a catastrophic threat, in practice, it is approached as a scientific and economic governance issue. ‘Securitizing’ the issue has long been regarded as problematic, with an assumption that it will lead to draconian top-down solutions. However, in this talk, Dr Boulton argues it does not have to be that way and further, it is now riskier to not consider the planetary crisis within mainstream geopolitical and national defence strategy. She introduces ‘PLAN E: a grand strategy for the era of entangled security and hyperthreats’ published by the US Marine Corps University Press.
