Welcome to the registration page for the 2026 McLeavey Memorial Tournament to be held on July 19th at Te Pai Netball Centre, Waitakere.
ELIGIBILITY
Senior/Open Events - fencers must be 13 years old on the day of competition ( Fencing NZ Minimum Age Policy).
(For fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)

REGISTRATION
Standard registrations - $30.00 + booking & cc fees.
Standard entries open until Sunday July 12th at 23:55h

Spectators and Officials: Registration is free via the booking page with no booking charges.

Multiple Discipline Entries: If you are entered in multiple events and your next event starts prior to your completion of the first, you will be scratched from the starting event and are expected to continue to compete in the first event.
Entry fees are payable via the entry system

ENTRY CONDITIONS
FENCERS UNDER 14 YEARS OLD MUST ALWAYS BE WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
By registering for this event, you agree to the following conditions;
- I am entering the competition at my own risk and agree to abide by the rules of fencing as set out by the FIE, Fencing New Zealand and any directions given by the organisers relating to the running of the tournament (for fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)
- I agree to abide by the FeNZ Fencers Code of Conduct and Health & Safety Policy and agree to withdraw from the competition if I am feeling unwell on the day. (see Resources on FeNZ website.
Affiliation/Membership
This is a Regional tournament with ranking points. You must be affiliated with Fencing New Zealand as a Full Competitive Member to compete. Affiliation status for 2026 will be checked at time of entry.

PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to view the FeNZ affiliation number issued to you via Sporty, but as DT I can access this number via the FeNZ admin portal .
You may also provide the receipt number from your registration (begins with SP)
COMPETITION FORMAT : One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 15 points).
Events will be fenced as separate genders unless a minimum of six participants in a gender is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced.
Awards:
Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals will be awarded in each event.
EQUIPMENT STANDARDS

Epées, Foils and Sabres, wires, masks, gloves, and conductive jackets (lamés) will all be subject to equipment control. All clothing must be in a good state of repair.
Torso: Minimum of 1150N protection. This can be made up of either a 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or an 800N Jacket and a 350N plastron,
Breeches: 350N (CEN 1)
Masks: All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and able to return to its original position after stretching without any deformation.
The hook and loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elasticity and resisting removal.
Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary strap or bar.
Curly mask wires are not permitted
Gloves: Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for Sabre.
Chest Protector: Compulsory for Women’s events. Optional for Men.
FOIL Specific: Chest Protectors – FIE technical rule rule m25.4.c requiring an over cover has been implemented at Fencing New Zealand Competitions since 1st July 2025. The referees will check for this at the piste. Lame Bibs are required.
FIE blades are required with either Bayonet or 2-pin body wires. FIE no.3 size blades are acceptable
EPÉE Specific: FIE blades are required.
Leon Paul SR-71 blades date stamped 08-2012 to 06-2015 will not be accepted.
Leon Paul V blades dated 08-2012 to 06-2015 without a unique serial number will not be accepted.

SABRE Specific: FIE blades S2000 or later are required.
MARAGING SABRE BLADES Are NOT required for New Zealand competitions in 2026, but if fencers wish to use Maraging blades they will be accepted.
Weapons Checking
We will not be doing a full gear check before this competition BUT referees will be employing Weights and Gauges to check Epée and Foils at the piste.

The start times below are ONLY AN INDICATION. We will send you notifications of start times for each event when competitor numbers become clear.
MORNING EVENTS
Please arrive in plenty of time for registration and then help to set up the stadium
Times may alter slightly if there’s a separate Women’s Sabre event.
[As this is a ranking competition, large entry numbers may mean an earlier start to Men’s Epée and/or Women’s Foil - we will keep you informed]
Men’s Epée & Men’s Sabre or Mixed Sabre 7:45 - 8am registration for 8.30 start
Women’s Foil . 10:15-10:30 check-in for 11.00 start
MIDDAY/AFTERNOON EVENTS
Women’s Epée 11.15-11.30 check-in for 12.00pm start
Men’s Foil. . 12.15-12.30 check-in for 1.00pm start
FINAL START & REGISTRATION TIMES - Will be notified when known
AFTERNOON FENCERS
Please stay and help with equipment pack-down as required.

Please note: Due to changes in access for individuals aged under 16 to FencingTimeLive, pool results and DE Tableau will be posted at the venue
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Video Refereeing: Will occur for Finals at the discretion of the DT
FIE Rule t.124: Non-Combativity will be implemented at this competition.
FIE Rule t.122: Fencers will be required to salute each other by way of acknowledging their opponent and the referee.

Drug Free Sport: by participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential to be selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required to do so. An athlete refusing anti-doping testing will be automatically disqualified from the event and procedures will be instigated as oulined in the current Sports Ant-Doping Rules from the New Zealand Sports Integrity Commission.
Results: will be posted to FencingTimeLive. QR Codes will be displayed within the venue.
Podium Protocol: All Fencers must wear a country, club, regional or FeNZ Jacket and either breeches or tracksuit pants together with Fencing Socks and Shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.
Photography:
Photography is allowed at all Fencing North and National competitions. The competition venue is considered a public space.
Non public spaces with full respect of privacy are the changing rooms and the toilets. No photography is allowed in there.
Please do not change in public spaces. If you do, you waive your right to privacy.
Please note:
Pictures taken at the event can be published on social media, the internet and printed media by Fencing North. This includes spectators and officials.
