Keynote Address: ADF Ex-Commando Damien Thomlinson

Join us to hear Damien’s riveting and uplifting story of resilience and survival against the odds. Damien lost both his legs and almost his life, suffering horrendous injuries from a terrorist bomb explosion whilst serving in Afghanistan. He was saved by first responders, who kept him alive for one hour in the desert while surrounded by the Taliban.

Despite the dire predictions of his medical team, not only did Damien survive, he also threw himself into his rehabilitation and set about re-claiming his life, on his terms – a testament to his incredible drive and determination.

Damien continues to challenge himself today; he has participated in the TARGA Tasmania classic car rally, has walked the demanding Kokoda Track, represented Australia in the Invictus Games, written a best-selling autobiography and become an actor. His triumph against adversity, positive attitude and ambition for the future resonate with people from all walks of life.
