Meals For The Mob

Event description

Join us for Meals for the Mob at FareShare Brisbane as we cook up another storm this month and try and crack 4000 meals in 4 hours.

We will work in teams guided by Master Chef James and make nutritious meals for our Mob all over the state.

We have the music pumping and a competitive spirit as we try and break last months record.

All meals are free and distributed all over QLD and NSW to our families doing it tough.

Bring a colleague, bring a friend and be apart of serving our people on a huge scale.

Details

Please arrange to be at FareShare, 46 Steel Place, Morningside by 12:15pm. We will have a pre-shift induction and briefing before we get you into our kitchen from 12:45pm. The shift will finish by 4:00pm and includes a break for afternoon tea (which will be supplied).

Your crew will be working under the supervision of our experienced chefs and will undertake a variety of jobs which might include sorting, dicing, cooking and packaging. You will do more than one of these jobs, so you can get a good feel for what we do. We also appreciate your help in cleaning up the kitchen once you have finished cooking.

THE THREE DO’S AND DON’TS OF THE KITCHEN

Your health and safety whilst on site are our number one priority, nothing is more important. Please do all you can to be safe by following these Do’s and Don’ts

DO

·  Report any potential safety hazards or incidents to a Chef

·      Please let a Chef know if you are ever leaving the kitchen area for any reason

·         If in doubt about what to do or how to do, please just ask

                  DON’T

·         Leave the kitchen area to go into the cool rooms or warehouse area unless asked to and accompanied by a staff member

·         Touch or use any plant and equipment unless you have been instructed to

·         Undertake any tasks you are not comfortable and confident with such as lifting a heavy load

We will supply all participants with a FareShare apron and cap. If your organisation has corporate aprons and caps then please feel free to bring these. Please note that for OH&S reasons, plastic aprons are not to be worn in our kitchen.

·         Footwear

We require all kitchen volunteers to wear flat, closed in shoes. Sneakers/trainers, work boots or kitchen clogs are ideal and will ensure that you are comfortable for the shift. Please note, due to OH&S ballet flats cannot be worn in the kitchen.

·         General clothing & Jewellery

Our kitchens are air conditioned for both food safety and for volunteer comfort.  Even if the weather is warm, please wear a top with sleeves (short or long) – no sleeveless or singlet tops please. The kitchen is an armpit free zone!

Shorts, skirts etc are all fine to wear in the kitchen.

The only jewellery allowed in the kitchen are plain band rings (no stone settings) and stud earrings (no stone settings). All other jewellery, including watches, need to be removed before entering the kitchen and left in the lockers provided.  If you have rings that you are unable to remove, then gloves are to be worn for every kitchen task.

·         Water bottles

It’s a good idea to keep hydrated so we encourage you to bring along a water bottle. Please note that the kitchen is a glass free zone so please ensure it is made of plastic, metal or any other material that does not shatter when dropped.

·         Phones

You are welcome to keep your phone on you during your time at FareShare. However, for OH&S reasons we do ask you leave the kitchen if you need to send a text or make a call. Please note that every time you touch your phone you must wash your hands and replace your gloves before returning to your kitchen task.

We encourage your team to take pictures during their time in the FareShare kitchen. However, we do ask you to let us know prior if you plan on taking images/ videos as there are few policies we need you to adhere to.

HEALTH

It is really important that you are healthy when preparing food and FareShare meals. So even if you have the slightest cough or a sniffle, please do not come in and volunteer at FareShare.
