Description

Build Inclusive, Meaningful, and Culturally Responsive Evaluation Practices

Learn how to adapt traditional evaluation frameworks to be inclusive, culturally safe, and relevant when working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities. This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed for professionals in government, not-for-profits, corporate social responsibility, social enterprises, and consultancy firms who work with or support CaLD communities.

Whether you are supporting newcomers to settle well, strengthening cultural responsiveness in service delivery, or building welcoming and inclusive communities, this workshop will help you better identify the difference your work makes. You will gain practical tools and approaches to design and deliver measurement and evaluation that genuinely capture the experiences of CaLD communities and the outcomes of your work.

You will explore practical strategies for engaging diverse stakeholders, collecting meaningful data, and communicating findings in ways that respect cultural perspectives and support positive change.

In this workshop delivered by the Centre for Social Impact UWA, you will:

Facilitators

Lisette Kaleveld

Lisette is a social researcher who has worked on research and evaluation projects conducted in academic/research contexts as well as for the not-for-profit sector, as a public servant and as an independent consultant. Lisette has led a significant number national, state-wide and locally based evaluation projects as the principal researcher/team leader, and has undertaken capacity building projects including facilitating training, tools and frameworks for community development officers to measure the impact of their work in local government. Lisette’s evaluation experience spans the mental health sector, education and disability sectors. Lisette is convener for the Australian Evaluation Society (WA Branch).

Sarah Janali Principal Consultant – Janali & Co.

Sarah Janali is a community development practitioner passionate about working at the intersections of place, culture and community. As Founder & Principal Consultant at Janali & Co, she partners with local governments, social services and community organisations to strengthen intercultural practice and support the development of inclusive and cohesive communities.

Her evaluation portfolio spans community development and inclusion projects—most notably the Ethnic Communities Council of WA’s GENESIS program—where she designed and delivered a mixed-methods approach evaluation to illuminate outcomes valued by diverse participants.

Sarah’s work bridges strategy, data and lived experience. She has led the development of diversity dashboards and population insights (integrating Census and staff survey data) for health services, helping teams translate data into action for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. In the local government sector, she supports services to articulate outcomes, develop program logics, and embed monitoring and evaluation frameworks that are practical and context specific.

Through her work with Welcoming Australia, Sarah collaborates on initiatives that foster belonging and inclusion at a place-based level.

Dr Siddier Chambers, Evaluation Consultant - Janali & Co.

Siddier is an international social researcher and an evaluator with more than 20 years’ experience in public policy, women’s interests, community development, and rural development. Her expertise encompasses policy and program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, gender analysis, and project management. She has led and contributed to work addressing complex social, environmental, and economic issues, including women’s development, family and gender-based violence, poverty reduction, positive masculinities, community development, climate change, disaster risk management, youth empowerment, Aboriginal engagement, disability inclusion, and access and inclusion for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) and LGBTQIA communities.

She has extensive experience designing and evaluating policies, programs, and projects across academia, the public sector, the private sector, and the social sector in the Caribbean, Australia, Egypt, and China. She has presented her research and publications at local, regional, and international conferences in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Egypt, Nepal, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. She brings strong capability in policy and gender analysis, qualitative and mixed-methods research, and is highly adept at working across diverse cultural and social contexts.

In this new phase of her career, she is focused on translating policies and programs into tangible, measurable change that enhances the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities.

Cancellations and Refunds Cancellations by you If you need to cancel your workshop registration please do so in writing to margaret.ritchie@uwa.edu.au. We recognise that unforeseen personal circumstances may arise impacting your ability to attend our workshops. If you chose to cancel your workshop registration please note the following: • If you cancel more than 28 days before the workshop start date you will receive a 100% refund. • If you cancel 15-28 days before the workshop start date you will receive a 50% refund. • If you cancel 8-14 days before the workshop start date you will receive a 25% refund. • If you cancel 0-7 days before the workshop you will not be entitled to a refund. Refunds agreed by CSI UWA will be processed within 60 days of the request and will be made back to the same credit/debit card you used to make your booking. Cancellations by CSI UWA In the event that CSI UWA needs to cancel a workshop for any reason, including the last minute unavailability of the speaker or the unexpected occurrence of events due to COVID-19, we will work with you to either refund your registration, change your registration to a workshop scheduled on another date, or make arrangements for you to attend the workshop via an interactive online mode where you will hear and interact with the presenter(s) and other participants. Please note that we will follow Federal and State government regulations and advice on social distancing and will take this into consideration when organising the venues and seating arrangements. As a result numbers that we can have in the room may be limited and we will set maximum capacity to reflect this. In the event of a workshop cancellation, CSI UWA will not be responsible for any cost other than the workshop registration fee. CSI UWA strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance to cover airline flights, accommodation etc., in the event of a workshop cancellation. Registration Changes If you register to attend a workshop in-person and wish to change to the interactive online mode, the following refund policy applies. • If you change your registration more than 28 days before the workshop start date you will receive a full refund on the difference between the in-person and the online price. • If you change 15-28 days before the workshop start date you will receive a 50% refund on the difference between the in-person price and the online price. • If you change 8-14 days before the workshop start date you will receive a 25% refund on the difference between the in-person price and the online price. • If you change 0-7 days before the workshop start date you will not be entitled to a refund. If you wish to change your registration from online to in-person attendance then you must pay the difference between the online cost and the cost of attending the workshop in-person.
