POSTPONED

The Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand is celebrating the official opening of the new building that will house Temperature and Electrical Standards on World Metrology Day 2020.

New Building Opening (9.30am - 11.30am)

On Wednesday 20th May 2020 the Measurement Standards Laboratory (MSL) will officially open their new building at the Gracefield Innovation Quarter in Lower Hutt. The building will be the new home for MSL's Temperature and Electrical Standards laboratories and completes the first stage of a site-wide redevelopment of the Gracefield campus.

The MSL Temperature and Electrical laboratories will now enjoy state of the art lab spaces critical to the precision research and standards maintenance work as expected from New Zealand's national measurement institute.

World Metrology Day 2020 (11.30am - 5.30pm)

World Metrology Day is an annual celebration to mark the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875, which set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement. Metrology plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, improving the quality of life and protecting the global environment.

Following the official opening, MSL will deliver a full programme of talks, workshops, lab tours and the chance to network at the Metrology Society of Australasia (MSA) networking hour.

This annual celebration acknowledges the global measurement infrastructure that exists today, 125 years on from the first countries signing the Metre Convention. It is also a chance to stay up-to-date with current measurement related research and developments, hear about global trends, MSL initiatives and talk to MSL scientists and customers about topical issues.
