    Event description

We are pleased to announce the next destination on our plant-based world tour - JAMAICA, with Lucy Hawkins!

Lucy is of Jamaican descent and she is excited to share a taste of her culture with you. In her words, "We will be cooking Rastafarian Ital Jamaican... roots 'n' spice and everything nice... irie mannn!"

Ital is a way of eating followed by those in the Jamaican Rastafari movement. The name comes from the word “vital” and it's built around prioritising fresh, whole, unprocessed foods. An Ital diet is free from meat, chemicals, preservatives, and artificial flavourings.

    We will be treated to...

    Jamaican Ital Power Bowl featuring:

    • Chickpea, lentil and jackfruit curry
    • Roast jerk pumpkin and kumara peas and rice
    • Spinners (dumplings)
    • Mango salsa
    • Pineapple coleslaw

AND Hot coconut bananas for dessert!

Come at 4pm to chat and make new friends while learning the dishes and helping to cook for the evening - or arrive between 6 and 6.30pm just to enjoy the yummy food.

If doing the workshop please wear closed shoes to comply with health and safety regulations. Please if you can, bring your own plate, bowl and cutlery, as a) the WRT doesn't have quite enough and b) it reduces the massive pile of dishes our volunteers have to do afterwards! This is a non-profit event so we'd really appreciate if you could do us this little favour.

Get a taste of Jamaica without leaving Waiheke - see you there!
