Medical Parole Pro Bono Training Hosted by Prisoners' Legal Services of Massachusetts
Event description
Please join Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts (PLS) to learn about pro bono opportunities with our Medical Parole team!
Medical parole, or compassionate release, is a relatively new legal mechanism through which terminally ill and permanently incapacitated prisoners can petition for release from prison. PLS staff attorneys Becky Schapiro and Ada Lin will provide some background to attendees about the indignities of aging and dying in prison, then provide training on how pro bono attorneys can use their time and expertise to help sick, disabled, and elderly individuals seeking release under the medical parole statute.
Representing incarcerated clients in their medical parole petitions is a meaningful way to help some of the most vulnerable and often forgotten members of our community. These petitions are time-sensitive but time-limited, and well suited for attorneys of any experience level. After completing the training, attendees can sign up to receive medical parole referrals, with ongoing support from the PLS team.
Lunch will be provided. Registration is required to attend.
A special thank you to our host Morgan Lewis!
