About this event

Have your child’s healthcare experiences left you feeling emotionally overwhelmed? Whether you’ve had to face a new diagnosis for your child, they’ve undergone a difficult procedure or simply interacting with health care professional leaves you stressed and anxious.

Medical trauma is something many of us raising a child with disability and complex medical needs have experienced. These feelings can be particularly intense and our responses to situations can vary.

We will be joined at MyTime by Kylie Ferguson, who is completing her Masters of Counseling, and is a the mother of an autistic child. Kylie will delve into the concept of medical trauma, the recognition of our physical and emotional responses, and where to seek support.

Join this peer group discussion to share your experiences, connect with others who understand, and find support on your journey. 

This event is facilitated by Pam

Pam lives in Canberra with her husband Tom and their four children. Their nine-year-old son, Christopher, was born with Congenital Cytomegalovirus. They enjoy spending quality time together as a family, creating special memories and raising compassionate humans. Pam is passionate about empowering new mothers and carers to own their choices. 

She is currently studying to become a qualified birth, postpartum, and end-of-life doula to work closely with and better support families facing difficult diagnoses in utero, neonatally, and beyond.

Who is this event for?

Medical MyTime is for parents and carers who are navigating the health and medical systems with a child with disability, developmental delay or autism.

During a MyTime session, there is a guided discussion and a space to connect with other families. These discussions offer an opportunity for parents and caregivers to share and learn from each other.
