Course overview

This course has been designed for community workers who may be responsible for assisting clients with medication management. It is delivered in a blended format with eLearning and face to face practical application. The course has been written to support the NDIS medication management required for the NDIS standards. It important to understand that this course in NOT a nationally recognised unit of competency.

Following legal requirements that support safe medication management
The roles and responsibilities of those involved in management in the workplace
Unpacking the common terminology used in medication management
The 10 rights of medication
Safe practices for assisting with medications
Different routes of medication administration
Your role on self-administration
Medication documentation and incidents

Practical skills training

You are required to complete the eLearning component prior to attending the 4-hour face to face practical skills training. The eLearning is estimated to take approximately 3 hours to complete. Those who attend the practical skills training (date can be selected in the ticket section) without successfully completing the eLearning will not be permitted to attend the practical skills training.

The face-to-face practical skills training and competency include the following:

Implementing the 10 rights of medication
Supporting a client with the safe administration of - oral medication, sublingual, topical, inhalational, transdermal, eye drops, nasal sprays
Completing medication administration documentation
Reporting incidents

Other important information

You will be required to bring a notebook and pen to the course
There is a cafe on site for you to purchase lunch and beverages
