Description

Join us to sit for 30 minutes on the steps of Parliament House in silent mediation as a peaceful protest highlighting the urgent need for climate action.

Your presence will serve as a visual, non-violent and peaceful protest highlighting the urgent need for climate action, influencing decision makers, promoting environmental consciousness and fostering a peaceful, compassionate approach to our ecological crises.

Become calm and grounded yourself, while raising public awareness and encouraging our politicians to act with deeper empathy for the Earth.

In seeking to foster compassion and empathy for the Earth and all life, we are urging our politicians to consider long term ecological health over short term gains.

Who is this for?

We welcome everyone, faith background or not, passers-by or regular attendees. We are climate activists and non activists, we are from different faith traditions and none, we are people who care for the Earth and all life forms, we are parents and grandparents concerned for the future of our children, we are people of hope. We are sometimes frustrated, sad and feeling overwhelming hopelessness regarding the ongoing poly crisis, seeking the extra energy, motivation and belief that change is possible. We are mystics in awe and wonder at both the beauty of our World and the tragedy that is unfolding. We are people with a vision for a better way through caring and connection.

What will we do?

Arrive 11.45am for a 12pm start. When we settle on the steps a short address will be given followed by the sound of meditation bells. Then 30 mins of silence during which you can meditate, contemplate, pray, or simply be present for the Earth. You may have your eyes open or closed. Crossed legs or not. Whatever is most comfortable for you. The bells will ring after 30 mins have passed and the formal proceedings are complete.

What should I bring?

Bring a cushion (the steps can be hard) and your water bottle. Although the steps are somewhat sheltered by the shadow of the building, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

Will we be in the way?

Every month we let Parliamentary Security and the Police know we will be there. We sit either side of the entrance to the building and do not get in anyone’s way.

Will it be safe?

We always have a Guardian out front who ensures we are not physically disturbed as we sit. The Guardian is ready to answer questions and explain to others what we are doing.
