Meditation and Mindfulness in Nature

Event description

Being still in nature is a means of finding stillness and calmness within - a true antidote to the business and stresses of everyday life. We are offering three unique Mindfulness and Meditation sessions which feature the Music of the Plants, as well as expert guidance in mindfulness, meditation and calming breathing techniques.

Mindfulness in Nature is to sit quietly amongst the trees, listening to the gentle sounds of the wind in the leaves, the birdsong and sounds of forest. Through deep listening, we bring in slow, conscious breathing which draws the attention from the sounds of the outer world, to the sound and rhythm of our own breathing, and to an inner quietness beyond thought. This is meditation - to sit quietly, to be totally present, to feel a sense of connection with nature, to stay focussed on the peacefulness and quietness within. Thoughts, stresses and doubts gradually fall away, and it is the enduring sense of peace and a feeling of wellbeing which endure. It is the beauty and stillness of nature which inspires us to find this within ourselves.

During these unique Meditation and Mindfulness in Nature sessions, not only do we listen to the natural sounds around us, but we will connect our 'Music of the Plants' device to the plants and trees around us. This unique device perceives the electromagnetic signals of plants and translates it into musical harmonies which are amplified through a small speaker. The music produced is soft and relaxing and enhances your meditation, deepening your awareness of the power of nature to uplift and harmonise. This is truly unique auditory experience and deepens our Mindfulness of Nature.

Beginners and anyone new to meditation are very welcome to attend. Chairs will be available for those who are unable or unwilling to sit on the ground.

These sessions are guided by Kookaburra Yoga, a local yoga centre, and yoga and meditation teacher training school in Bedfordale.

This event is part of the Armadale Arts Festival, presented by the City of Armadale and proudly supported by Lotterywest.
