Meet the Artists: Making Theatre
Event description
Come along to an hour of insights of a 15-year working relationship between a circus artist and a theatre maker.
Susie Dee and Nicci Wilks together have made over 10 works presenting them around the world to much acclaim.
Their work ranges from the highly physical to the comedic to dark thought-provoking text-based productions.
They will be delivering a talk and share some insight to what it's like making theatre.
Susie Dee
Has worked extensively in the theatre as a performer, devisor, and director in Australia and overseas for the past thirty-five years. She has been the Artistic Director of three theatre companies: Melbourne Workers Theatre (MWT), Union House Theatre (UHT) and Institute Of Complex Entertainment (ICE), whose projects went on to win various awards and received many accolades for their ground-breaking site-specific work.
Nicci Wilks
Is a freelance artist that is continually creating and performing works of various art forms. She has been touring her work around the world for 40 years, performing in 14 languages, from the Pitjantjatjara lands to 42nd St NYC. Various companies Nicci has worked with include Circus Oz, Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, KAGE, CIRCA, Melbourne Workers Theatre, Legs On The Wall, Company 2 and more. Recently Nicci has been preparing her new solo show Rodeo Clown, featured in the multi award-winning short film Tarneit and is conspiring with other artists to bring live performance to the people. It’s not all popcorn and fizzy drinks but it’s worth it.
