Event description

Shaun Micallef will be in conversation with Andrew Leigh on his new book Slivers, Shards and Skerricks. “A one-man anthology by one of Australia's most intelligent and more handsome Renaissance men.”

This indefinitive collection brings together under one cover the very best comic writing – parody, poetry, prose, plays, philosophy and political treatise – by Australia's greatest living television host. From 'I Was Scott Morrison's Schnoodle' and 'Around the World in One Pair of Underpants' to the deliciously decadent recipe for 'Satyricon Su'rprise', Shaun Micallef ‘s sublime anthology has it all.

THRILL to the meta-ironic existential crisis in the Rocky universe; GASP as you learn what happened to Scrooge in the days following A Christmas Carol; DISCOVER what it takes to pass for human in an increasingly convoluted post-Robodebt world.

Affirm Press has described Slivers, Shards and Skerricks as “a spectrum of writing possibilities including poems, short stories, nonfiction essays and bits too wild to categorise”, ranging from “the cryptically autobiographical to the gloriously absurd, from savage political takedowns to profound and philosophical reflections”.

Shaun Micallef is an Australian TV writer/producer/presenter, comedian and sometimes actor best known for his work on Full Frontal, The Micallef P(r)ogram(me), Newstopia, Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation, and 15 seasons of the popular news satire, Mad as Hell. He has written nine books, only one of which is Slivers, Shards and Skerricks. He enjoys gargling and lives in Melbourne.

Andrew Leigh has authored or coauthored eleven books, none of which are funny or have a picture of himself on the cover. Since entering parliament in 2010, he has experienced himself and his fellow politicians being mocked by media celebrities like Shaun Micallef. Finally, he is looking forward to being the one who asks the questions.

This event is in association with Harry Hartog Bookshop. Books will be available for purchase. Pre-event book signings will be available from 5.30pm and again after the event.
