Event description

Modernist Adelaide: An Architectural Revolution!

Stuart Symons is helping people better appreciate Adelaide’s mid-century architecture. Author of Modernist Adelaide: 100 Buildings 1940s–1970s and host of more than 120 award-winning architecture tours and events, Stuart will discuss the architectural revolution that drove the rapid transformation of our culture and communities in post-war Adelaide.

Through a stunning presentation of Adelaide’s cool modernist heritage, Stuart will share his favourite local buildings, introduce the great minds who designed and built them, and explore what they can tell us about ourselves today.

A fascinating author talk for anyone interested in architecture, design, local history, society and culture, placemaking, retro and mid-century modern chic, construction and engineering

“You have Stuart Symons doing his modernist architecture tours. That doesn't happen in every city in Australia. To be able to showcase and talk about great twentieth-century buildings in Adelaide is jewel-like. It’s a great asset.” –
Kevin McCloud, Grand Designs

Presented as part of History Festival 2025.
