Meet the Candidates - Sutherland Shire Council Elections 2021 Ward D
Event description
EVENT - In-person and online (Zoom details to be sent to online registrants)
It's third time lucky for the local government elections in NSW. Now due to take place on 4 December, the constituents of Ward D in the Sutherland Shire will have the opportunity to meet those candidates standing for election, and get to hear first hand what their vision is for our communities across the Sutherland Shire.
In 2021 almost half of the current Council is retiring, and after 4 December we will have a number of new people representing our interests at the local government level. So this is a great opportunity to make our points of view known to those standing for election, and also to hear their motivation for standing.
Local government is sometimes disparagingly described as being responsible only for “roads, rates and rubbish”. But many councils, including Sutherland Shire Council, play a much larger role in issues that affect our lives in and beyond the boundaries of our local government. Issues such as housing and homelessness and the provision of vital community services supplement Council’s critical administrative responsibilities that enable our homes, business and services to function.
As well as hearing about the candidates' plans for Sutherland Shire, we will have the chance to ask them about the role that Councils can play in the bigger issue that we face as we consider what life will look like living with COVID post-lockdown.
