Event description

Join us for the first 'Meet the Changemaker' of 2025!

To kick this year off, we are chatting with none other than the incomparable Nic Seton, CEO of Parents for Climate, to learn more about what drives him, how he ended up where he is, and a little behind-the-scenes update on the team's work empowering parents' to push for stronger climate policies.

We're excited to be talking to Nic in this pivotal moment and hearing about what his team are focusing on in the lead up to the 2025 election. In 2022, Parents for Climate built strong, constructive relationships with all major party candidates in key electorates through their community events and briefings. In the end, there were huge swings towards climate positive candidates in these electorates, well above the national average.

This event for everyone, whether you're climate curious, a weekend warrior, or working in the thick of it. We'd love to see you there! This will be a casual networking and socialising opportunity. So grab a drink, maybe a bite, say hello to someone new and learn about the incredible humans scaling up climate advocacy in Australia!

Ps: There is limited capacity, so please if you RSVP and can longer make it, email xanthe@groundswellgiving.org to let us know.

What do Parents for Climate do?

Parents for Climate is a grassroots climate action organisation empowering Australian families to advocate for a safe climate future. They provide resources, support, and community-building opportunities to help parents and caregivers engage in impactful climate action, from local campaigns to national advocacy. Parents for Climate is driven by a passionate network of parents, educators, and climate experts, working together to protect the wellbeing of children and future generations. Founded by concerned parents, the organisation has grown into a powerful, family-centred movement dedicated to positive, systemic climate solutions.

Why is this work important?

Parents for Climate works to protect the wellbeing of children and future generations from the impacts of climate change. By empowering families to speak up and take action, they help shift public attitudes, influence policy, and ensure decision-makers are held accountable. Their work helps drive the systemic change needed for a safe, thriving planet.

How is Groundswell supporting this work?

Groundswell provided core funding for Parents for Climate in 2021 and again in 2024 to support their critical work in mobilising parents as powerful advocates for climate action. This funding has been deployed to activate and support parent community leaders, hold events in key electorates, and engage the media to drive greater climate ambition. With the 2025 Federal Election approaching, Groundswell’s support is helping Parents for Climate harness parent power to create visible, unignorable demand for climate solutions in key regions across the country.

Who is Nic Seton?

After 15 years in management and senior leadership roles for advocacy organisations in Australia and the UK, Nic took a year out to care for his second child. He then joined Parents for Climate as its CEO in 2021, determined to facilitate effective public pressure for climate action. Nic brings his experience in delivering award winning public campaigns, rapid strategy development and organisational leadership to support the team at Parents for Climate to achieve targeted growth and strategic impact.

Nic lives in Sydney with his two incredible kids and an inspiring partner. They have a lot of fun exploring nature and playing together.

About Groundswell

Groundswell was co-founded in 2020 by three friends – Clare, Anna and Arielle – to accelerate climate action in Australia. We started Groundswell because while we could see no shortage of people deeply concerned about the climate crisis and wanting to be part of change, many were unsure about how to make the biggest impact. We could also see there was no shortage of brilliant climate action out there, ready to scale up and deliver important change, but that most organisations were restricted by a critical lack of funding. So, we created Groundswell to join the dots.

Since our launch, Groundswell has grown into a powerful community committed to funding and accelerating strategic climate action in Australia. In addition to grant making, Groundswell runs a renowned climate fellowship program for philanthropic, business and cultural leaders working to change the game on climate this decade.
